Congregation Kona Beth Shalom

Dear Friend,

Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 7, 1997, when Congregation Kona Beth Shalom conducts its Annual Meeting. We meet at 3 o'clock at the Kahalu'u Beach Park small pavilion (at the north end of the beach). Bring snorkels and fins for before, and your pot-luck contribution for afterwards. We can barbecue, eat, drink, meet and be merry.

The meeting agenda includes (but is not limited to):

Annual WaKoBeS Report, Annual KeKoBeS Report, Annual Treasurer's Report

Election of Board of Trustees: Morty Breier, Erwin Myhre and Michael Zola are up for       re-election. If you're not on the Board but would like to be, tell me, or come to the meeting.      The term is for 3 years. The new Trustees take office on Rosh Hashana

After the Annual Meeting we will convene the monthly Board of Directors Meeting to which you are also invited, and the items for discussion will include:

Preparing for the High Holidays. This year, Rabbi Sheldon Kirsch will return to conduct      our services at the Kona Surf Resort. Here are the dates:

Rosh Hashana eve:                        Thu eve           Oct 1

Rosh Hashana day Thu morn         Oct 2

Shabbat Tshuvah eve                     Fri eve Oct 3

Shabbat Tshuvah morn                  Sat morn          Oct 4

Kol Nidre               Fri eve             Oct 10

Yom Kippur          Sat all day        Oct 11

Also note that in October we also will celebrate Sukkot at the home of Sarit and Scott Reich on Sunday afternoon, October 19.

And stay posted friends, because later in October, Rabbi Nathan Segal will be in Kona to lead us in some lively music, celebrations, fun stuff, and also Simchat Torah.

Preparation of Kona Beth Shalom's Annual Calendar, marking the holidays and starting preparations for their observance, and plan the Varieties of Jewish Experience series..

We will also discuss our monthly Shabbat Services. Do we want to change anything?

Michael Zola will let us know about the Jewish section of the Hualalai Cemetery. What do   we want to do about it? As you may recall, Cantor Leo Fettman led us in the consecration          of the area several years ago.

We hope you can attend. Our meetings are, more than anything else, family get-togethers. This past year we've enjoyed a lot of laughter and warmth when we've met. Our congregation has been there when people in our community (not just active members) have needed support (for funerals, for illness), or just wanted to share their good experiences (weddings, holidays).

Check out the enclosed "KBS Shaloha Cookbook" notice. It's a wonderful book!

We're not complete without you! I hope you can come.

Shaloha,                                                                       Barry Blum, M.D.
