Where We Are
Hawaiian Islands - The Big Island - Kailua-Kona
The State of Hawaii includes six major islands: Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. Inter-island travel is usually by commercial airline service. The island of Oahu, where the City of Honolulu, Pearl Harbor and Waikiki Beach are located, has the largest population. Kona Beth Shalom is on the island of Hawaii, not Oahu.

Hawaii Island (called “The Big Island,” “Orchid Island,” or “Volcano Island”) has the largest land area, over 4,000 square miles, which is somewhat larger than Connecticut. “Kona,” where congregation Kona Beth Shalom is located, refers to the districts on the western, or leeward, coast of Hawaii Island. The main town on the Kona coast is Kailua-Kona. The city of Hilo is on the eastern coast of Hawaii Island.
Kailua-Kona town is located on the ocean side (makai in Hawaiian) of the intersection of Palani Road and the main highway, 19/11. Alii Drive runs through the old town and continues south along the ocean, ending in Keauhou Bay. Not far from its southern end is Kahalu'u Beach Park, also known as "The Snorkeling Beach" because of its excellent snorkeling. Adjacent to this Beach Park, at its south end, is the Keauhou Beach Resort. Besides driving south on Alii Drive from town, one could take the highway south turning right on King Kamehameha III Road, then a right on Alii Drive.
Our Sabbath and Holiday Services are held at the Keauhou Beach Resort on the ocean (Makai) side of Alii Drive in Keauhou. The resort is adjacent to Kahaluu Beach Park about one half mile north of King Kamahameha III Road. Friday night services are held on the last Shabbat of the month at sundown at the Kalanikai Pavilion. Saturday Morning services are held at 10:00 am on the veranda of the same hotel.
